(or… Who is this blogger anyway??)
Donald T. Scheller was born in New Orleans, raised in New York City and left there to join the Air Force where he was sent to Photo Tech School to be trained as a photographer. After his military service, he worked for Eastman Kodak for six years while attending the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he studied photo illustration, graduating as a fine art major in photography. Scheller traveled and worked odd jobs (cab driver in San Diego, English muffin maker, janitor) before deciding he’d like to teach at the college level, and entered the University of Buffalo (SUNY) to receive his MFA in photography.
His first college teaching position was at Rogers State College in Claremore, Oklahoma, where he helped design a photo journalism curriculum, while teaching one creative writing course in the English Department. At Rogers State, Scheller became involved in documenting American Indian rock art throughout Oklahoma and New Mexico, with side trips to California and Utah, where he presented papers for publication on new and unusual films for rock art recording, and on site and design similarities between urban graffiti and rock art.
After leaving Oklahoma, Scheller returned to Buffalo, New York where he’s been teaching photography, design, drawing and painting for the past twenty years. He continues to participate in exhibitions in various media, including collage, mixed media, assemblage, drawing and photography, as well as to publish in various small presses and to give occasional poetry readings.
